Bad Blogger is Bad

Sorry guys, you think an author would be a better blogger but alas, I stink at it. When I get busy, the blog is the first thing to go. I thought it was about time for an update on the goings on around here. Things have been kind of crazy the last couple of months. On Thanksgiving, my son got a little fever that resulted in a couple of days worth of a cold for him, but resulted in me getting the flu and being down for a week. That flu turned into a sinus infection that hung around for over a month and lasted through two rounds of anti-biotics. My husband also got sick sometime during that time. So we were all pretty miserable through the entire month of December. Needless to say, I didn’t get much done.

What I’ve been up to:

You may know that the end of last year, I had submitted my romantic suspense/crime thriller novel to Wilde City, and I’ve finally gotten a release date for that one. Tentatively, it’s going to come out on June 10th! That probably seems like a long time from now, but there’s a method to our madness. We most definitely wanted to get it out before GRL (San Diego) this year, but we wanted to come out in plenty of time for y’all to have read it in case you wanted to talk about it or ask questions, etc. at GRL. I really think you’re gonna love this one, even though it’s so different from my contemporary novels. Speaking of GRL, I still haven’t decided if I’m going to try and go this year. Of course I want to, because GRL is a blast and if you’ve never been, you should go. But—you knew it was comingSan Diego is a long, expensive haul from North Carolina, and my two-year-old is going through a clingy phase that doesn’t seem to have an end in sight. Still, even if I don’t go, Ethan & Geoff and the crew from Wilde City will be there to chat with you all about our books.

You can now read the blurb on the Shadows Fall splash page, or if you watch the slideshow on the homepage you’ll see a Shadows Fall teaser slide with the blurb and a picture of my cover model. Look for a cover reveal from Pride Promotions closer to the release date. 🙂

Next on the publication roster is the third book in the Coming About series. Yes, it is Rory’s story. I know a lot of readers have been curious about him, so you’ll finally get to know. The book is titled Unbreak Broken, and it got great reviews from my beta readers, which is encouraging because it was very intense and difficult to write. I wrote the first 50k during NaNoWriMothe first time I’d ever tried itand I did finish, but that wasn’t nearly the end of the story. This will be a long one, folks, sitting at about 97K prior to editing and (hopefully not too many!) cuts. It just wasn’t a story I could tell quickly. I’ll let you all know when I have a release date for that one (only just signed the WC contract a few days ago). I already have my cover mocked up too, so I’ll release that when I can!

What I’m doing now:

I’m working on a new project that just sort of appeared during a sleep-deprivation-induced depression (again, I have a two-year-old) and has morphed into something that I don’t completely understand. It tells the tale of the coming together of two very tragic individuals, and I’m hoping they can help each other become not-tragic together. However, it involves climbing inside the head of a very troubled man, and also climbing inside the heads of his doctors and his eventual lover. It’s not easy, given that I’m no stranger to psychiatric issues myself, and I’m doing intensive research to hopefully portray it accurately, but with my own spin. I have to write in spurts, and take long breaks, so that I don’t go crazy myself. I’ve been doing a lot of drawing, mainly facial studies, but some of my character’s hallucinations as well, and that helps me stay in the story even when I can’t write. Here are a few of those:

I’m a digital artist now, but I used to do a lot of hand drawing and painting. It’s been a while, and I’m not the best, but it’s cathartic and keeps me sane. 🙂

What’s coming next:

After that, I’ll either be working on the sequel to Shadows Fall, or I’ll start on expanding my short story The Gift into the full novel Frost, that I always had planned. Both of those will come, I promise. So many stories, so little time. I’m also expanding the design side of my life. I’ve got two, maybe three covers in the works to be revealed this year. If anyone has artwork they need done, you can visit my design website here or there is a link to it in the menu bar.

So that’s it for now. Check out the blurb for Shadows Fall and keep an eye out for announcements about the cover. Most of the announcements for covers and releases will show up first on my facebook page, so follow me if you’re not! Facebook tends to bury the author page posts so make sure to check it if you’re looking for info.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful new year! Later!
