Welcome to the MM Veterans Day Scavenger Hunt
Today I am hosting Christina from BFD Book Blog!
Why are you passionate about reading and reviewing m/m books?
(Sorry if this is rambling!) This is a question that I have kicked around a while. I’ve talked to other m/m readers trying to pinpoint exactly what it is about these books that have me so hooked. I think it’s a combination of things. Even in m/f books I find myself drawn more to the male characters and I’m not sure if it’s because I like men more, if the women are held to a higher standard by me because I don’t like weak women or if good female characters are rare. So having two male main characters usually lends to a better read for me. While I have read some really bad m/m books it seems like generally the writing is better. My theory behind that is that this is such a scrutinized sub-genre that the authors have to be damn near perfect to avoid additional scrutiny. I’ve only been reading m/m books for 2 years, so most of the stories are fresh and not redundant which I find to be the case with m/f books. I’ve often wondered in a few years if these stories will all start to seem the same to me as well. I hope not but only time will tell.
I’ve been asked the same question a lot, and I’ve never been able to describe it very well. I totally agree with you.
What are some of the best m/m books that you’ve read all year?
I’ve read 48 5-star books this year. We’ll do a Top 10 list on the blog in January which is harder to narrow down than it should be.
This may sound a bit contrived but the reason I asked to host you is that I absolutely loved your Coming About series….all 3 books were 5 star reads for me. I love how different each story is as well as all the characters. I was impressed with you being able to completely make me do a 180 on one of the characters from book 1 to book 2. And oh Rory…
*blushes* Why thank you. 🙂
I also recently fell in love with the Skyler Foxe Mystery series by Haley Walsh. I finally met Thomas Elkin (NR Walker) and those boys were fantastic (it absolutely is a Cooper Jones thing).
I could go on and on about my favorites, but I’ll stop there.
What would you like to see more of in m/m literature that you don’t see now?
You’ve kind of stumped me with this one…I’m so new to m/m books that I don’t totally know what I’m missing. I would like to see more weddings maybe, now that it’s legal everywhere and then eventually kids in those families.
What type of post is most popular with your readers? (Excerpts, interviews, cover reveals, reviews, etc?)
Character interviews, excerpts and reviews are always our biggest views. And of course any posts with giveaways get a lot of attention. I personally love character interviews and author interviews when I’ve read the book/series in the post and can be specific with my questions.
You are on a deserted island and can have only one book with you. What book would it be?
For A Reason by Jessie G. I’ve read that book 4 times and I’m sure I’ll read it several more times.
I haven’t read that one. I’ll have to check it out! I love finding new to me authors.
