Quickie Review: Lover at Last by J.R. Ward
I have definite mixed feelings about this one. I honestly feel like I have to rate and review this in two different parts:
Qhuinn & Blay storyline: 4.5
Everything else: 3
I think the Qhuinn and Blay story was handled very well. Ms. Ward didn’t shy away from anything, and I felt she treated it just like any of the m/f stories. As a regular reader of both BDB and m/m romance, I have to say that this story fits in with both of those perfectly. Qhuinn and Blay were so angsty and wonderful, although there were a few TSTL moments where you just want to be like, oh come on, but not that many.
My only complaint for this area of the book is that they got together so late, all we got was the epilogue to see them truly happy. We’ve been waiting so long for this book, she could have given us a little more time to enjoy the HEA…maybe write in the rest of the mating ceremony. Something.
But I still ♥ Qhuay.
Now, on to the rest of the book… I’m used to Ms. Wards POV changing and all of the side stories that are in the BDB novels, and I’m cool with that. But the amount of other crap going on in this book was monumentally migraine inducing.
Lets see if I can sum this up a little bit:

Mr. C/Lesser drug ring
And that may not even be all of them!
So, yeah. There were so many side plots stuffed into this book and VERY few of them were resolved. It was like the whole thing was just a set up for the next book, and I think Qhuinn and Blay deserved more than that. I still bow down to Ward as the master of smexy vampires, but in a lot of ways, this book left me a little disappointed.
Will I still read the next one? Of course.
And now… I need a nap because:
